Abstract — Current matters relating to utilization of biomass for producing energy are discussed, including the most developed technologies of biopower engineering and innovative developments, as well as the possi bilities of using nonfood raw materials as secondgeneration biofuel. It is shown that microalgae can be con sidered as prospective sources of different kinds of renewable biofuel, such as methane, biohydrogen, bioet hanol, biobutanol, pyrolysis biofuel, biodiesel, and renewable diesel fuel, and can serve as an alternative to the traditional cultures used for powergenerating purposes.
